little life update / 01

I have realised that I really don't like being apart for so long between posts.

I thought, a really nice idea (that I need approval of) is to do diary update posts with more casual content. I am finding it hard, as always, to keep putting out high quality posts on a regular basis, mostly because I know that I am lucky if I get one post out per week. I know that it is going to get harder and harder too because I am in Level 2. I'd love to do in-between posts about what I have been up to that week. What do you think? All it really means for you is that I will be posting more often!

I prepared a post on the weekend that I thought I would be able to publish but I just wasn't happy with the image quality. It really bugs me! I want to always create beautiful images for this blog, and for you. I will re-photograph it next weekend hopefully!

SO... lets start a new series... little life update / 01

+ For my school photography project we have to do surrealist style photos. I found an absolutely amazing surrealist photographer called lissy elle, you really should have a look at her work, I found her so inspiring. Her photos have a beautiful eerie fairytale glow to them.

She was one of my artist models, so last week I had to create my own images in her style. For my actual project, I wanted to incorporate birds, and I know it is sad but I think using (naturally) dead birds is beautiful. I feel really mean saying it but I wanted to have a very light and welcoming vibe to my photos but the content involves dead birds. It sounds very weird at the moment, and I have to find a bird which I am hoping will be easy, but I think it will turn out well! Another idea was to start with origami birds (inspired by this lissy elle photo) and throughout the project turn them into real birds. Any ideas?

We had a wasp inside the house a few days ago so instead of running and hiding I got my camera and a piece of white paper. It was dying, so I captured its last moments living. This was my favourite:

I think it is strangely beautiful and I want to find a way of incorporating it into my art project!

+ For art design (which is just amazing so far) we have to rebrand, style and design an event (sound amazing much!?). I started off doing the finders keepers markets but they turned out a little challenging to source images of. We have to use images of the event (e.g. for a ski event using snow and skiers) to make posters, and I couldn't really do that with a market. I asked my teacher whether I could swap to Femalt, I am not sure if it is made up or not, but it is a female artist festival and the lineup sounds AMAZING. I can now use some of the artists in the branding which is a lot better, since I am doing it for the whole year.

I was also introduced to one of my favourite new artists - Francisca Pageo - who does just gorgeous collages. Last week we had to replicate some in our own style, and these are what I came up with:

I tried to step out of my normal colour choices of light pinks etc. and ended up actually liking the darker colours - woo!

+ Some music I have been loving is: Lose It - Oh Wonder, Papi Pacify - FKA Twigs, What Kind Of Man - Florence + the Machine, Catastrophe - Yumi Zouma and Drowning - Banks. You can listen to them all on my spotify playlist here.

+ I have been desperately trying to find a dress for my school formal (AKA prom, dance, whatever you call it) and I need help! Do you know any brilliant dress websites that ship to NZ, any pretty boutiques or more simple styled dresses - you guys know what I like! My fave websites atm are AQ/AQ, Backstage, Keepsake and The Iconic. I will share some of my favourite dresses on the next update post.

I hope you will enjoy these more chatty random posts, hopefully it means there won't be too much pressure to post as much as before! I hope you are all well.

Much love. - Chloe

How to start a blog Part 1 / Decisions

I am quite excited about this... a new series!

This one is a very highly requested/highly questioned topic, starting your blog! It is a new series, I have planned 5 parts, from deciding to start a blog, to making and designing it, to monitoring it. I hope you will enjoy!

The first 'episode' is all about the decision.

So... you want to start a blog? You love reading other blogs and you want your own. Well, there is no better time to start than now - because why not?? In this series I will take you through every detail you need to know about how to build your blog, your presence online and how to begin your life as a blogger! Let's go!

1. Start a blog book

This is a really good idea, especially for what I will be teaching in this series, to organise and plan your blog. Pick a book to write down name ideas, post ideas, inspiration, plan publishing dates and so on. It is the first essential to starting your blog!

2. What equipment?

The bare minimals you need to start a blog are a camera, a computer and time - lots of time! As the series goes on I will show you other good things to have.

Something to remember: you can blog on a iPad or iPhone but you can't change the design on there. If you don't have access all the time to a computer, set up your blog on a computer then the rest you can do from a device!

3. Content

You will need to decide what your blog is going to be about. Here are some regular topic ideas:

- fashion
- diary
- photography
- crafts
- writing
- interiors
- beauty

Something to remember: when you start up your blog, it is good to have a designated theme, so that you can start to draw in readers who are interested! You can combine multiple themes, or just call it a lifestyle blog but do remember the readers point of view!

4. Name & brand

List ideas - play with your name, nicknames, your favourite things, your theme or something personal to you! Always remember your overall brand and image you want to create and the future of your blog!

5. Platform

Now... there are many many many blogging platforms out there, but the most common are Blogger and Wordpress. I 100% recommend Blogger, it is free, super easy and super customisable for the future. I will be doing all the future videos in this series about blogger too!

I hope you enjoyed the first post in the series, it is the most boring but also quite exciting stage of blogging so do follow along for part 2, where I will show you how to set up a blogger blog, and all your social media basics!

Good luck, get planning!

DIY wooden clothes rack in under 15 mins!

LOOK HOW PRETTY!

Guys. Can you believe I made this with the help of my dad in under 15 minutes? I can't.

I originally really wanted to find one online but the prices are insane, let alone shipping it to the middle of nowhere too! Of course I looked it up on pinterest, there were a few tutorials but not for what I wanted. Ideally I loved the idea of copper pipe joinery and wooden doweling, and I wanted it movable (because we all know how often I move around my room... too much) even though the ones that hang from the ceiling are so beautiful. I did a few concept drawings, decided which ones would be strongest so they wouldn't sway and which shapes I liked the most and came up with this guy! I also used string to attach the two a frame ends so that it can be folded up if you want to store it away temporarily!

I bought the wood a few weeks ago, then made it the very same day. I didn't really know how to photograph it because really its only a few bits of wood, but finally got it right! It is unbelievably easy to make with the help of a handy man/woman who is willing to do some measuring, cutting, drilling and screwing. Here is how I made mine and how you can make your own!

you will need:

+ 6.56m total of untreated pine, about 4x2cm on a cross section (1.64m each length - this can vary depending on how tall you want yours to be) allow extra to avoid cutting mistakes, and any issues.

+ 1.8m total untreated pine doweling, 3cm in diameter (0.9m each length - this can vary depending on how wide you want yours to be) allow extra to avoid cutting mistakes, and any issues.

+ roughly 1m twine/rope or your choice

+ 4 screws

how to:

1. first you will need to cut all the wood to the right lengths. Cut 4 lengths of the rectangle pine at 1.64m each, and 2 lengths of pine dowelling at 0.9m per length. Sand any rough edges

2. Drill a pilot hole (guide holes, smaller than your screws) in each end of the 2 dowel rods.

3. Work out where you would like your a frames to cross over, I measured roughly 20cm down each, then centred and drew a dot. Drill pilot holes on the dots.

4. Do the same at the bottom ends of 2 of the rectangular pine pieces, measuring roughly 25cm up from the bottoms and centring a dot. Drill pilot holes on the dots.

5. Just below that dot in part 4, drill a hole right through on the thinnest edge of the rectangular length of wood for threading the rope through, then do this in the same place on all 4 lengths.

6. Screw through the pilot holes on 2 the rectangular pieces, into the end of one of the dowels. Do the same with the other two lengths of wood, into the other end of the dowel. This will be your main dowel that you hang things on.

7. Push apart the two pieces of wood so that the two with holes at the bottom are at the back.

8. Screw through the pilot holes at the bottom into one of the ends of the other dowel, then the same with the other end.

8. Measure 2 lengths of around 50cm of rope, then tie each through the holes you drilled in the bottoms.

9. Stretch out the A frames, and you are done!

AHH isn't it gorgeous? And easy too! If you have any questions feel free to ask them below.

I use mine to hang my favourite clothes of the moment, but you could even hang magazines, scarves, accessories... get creative! Next step... copper clothes hangers...

I hope you have a go - if you do don't forget to show me!!

How to Start a Blog Part 2 / Setting Up + Social Media

$
0
0

Hooray, part 2!!

This part is about setting up your Blogger blog, making sure your name is available, setting up a matching gmail account and social media.

SO, from part 1, you have decided a name, what you will be blogging about and what you need to start! What's next?

1. Check your name is available
on Blogger by typing it like this into your browser:

yourblogname.blogspot.com

If a window shows up saying 'Blog not found' and a button saying register this blog, you are ready to go!
For the future, check godaddy.com and search for yourblogname.com. If it is available then great! Either buy it now if you are 100% certain that your name will stick with you, or wait until your blog has developed to change the URL.

2. Set up your Blogger & Gmail account
You will need to make a new google account so that you can make a custom email for your blog. The best option is yourblogname@gmail.com. With your new account, you can register your blog name/URL.

3. Start with the Simple Template
Select the simple template as it is clean and fresh, ready for your super design! Remove the nabber under Layout>Nav Bar>Remove, then the other sidebar widgets in the same way.

4. Set up social media accounts
Set up your chosen social media accounts with the same name every time. Try not to use underscores or numbers where possible, because readers will not search for those on google when looking for you!

Great! You have your basics down... next step is to personalise! Design - my favourite part!

Stay tuned for Part 3!

I hope you are finding this series useful, and once it is finished watching them all in a row should make sense! Good luck!

DIY marble inspiration board

This is just so cute guys! I love being able to stick pretty and inspiring things up with wash tape, clips and pegs - but you can't do that on walls.

This DIY is a super quick and easy way to make a gorgeous board that you can make in any size, any colour and any shape. I used my leftover marble contact paper (this one) and some cardboard. You could stick it up on a wall or lean it on a surface like me.

Here's how I made mine:

you will need:

scissors, ruler, tape, cardboard, contact paper and clips.

you could also use wood, cork board, magnetic board, or anything flat you have available!

1. Measure out what you have available in both your board and contact paper. Allow at least 2cm around the edges of the contact paper to fold around the edges of the board. I had 30cm x 45cm of contact paper left, so I made my board approx. 26cm x 41cm.

2. Cover the edges of the card in tape, to smooth the roughness.

3. Start covering the front of the board in the contact, using a ruler to smooth it out as you go.

4. Fold the edges of the contact paper round the edge of the board.

5. Tape down the contact to the back to make sure it is tight and stays stuck.

6. You are done! Now stick your favourite pictures, tags and notes on with clips, tape and pegs.

I stuck on a gorgeous print from Tales At Sea, some adhesive notes from Kikki.K, a print out of a gorgeous bedroom and a clothes tag from Assembly.

I hope you have a go, at your own take on this, if you do don't forget to show me on instagram by tagging me @alittlebirdyblog!

West End Tea Co. mini review

So, I am not normally (ever) the one to accept products to review on this blog, because of course I want to keep it like I intended it - a realistic and relatable blog (tbh I don't really know what I am talking about). But. Okay I have this thing where whenever I go food shopping with my Mum, I always go through the isles looking for the prettiest packaging. There is some pretty neat stuff these days - some marketers really know what they are doing!

So, when West End Tea Co. asked me if they would like to try and review their tea, my first thought was all the gorgeous packaging you can get for teas. I was definitely not disappointed with these. Their teas have the cutest little bottles with loose leaf teas, and some darn gorgeous typography on them.

My second thought was: oh, I don't normally like tea. My parents are english and so of course are addicted to tea - possibly 5 or more a day, always english breakfast. So maybe I will grow into tea? I'm not sure. So, I asked for the sweetest they had, and this cutey came in the post - American Pie!

I did what the instructions said - 1 to 2 tsp per 250ml boiling water for 5 to 6 minutes. And by the way it was already smelling amazing - like a warm cinnamon scroll or an apple pie.

And it was yum! I still have to get used to tea but I did really like it and it was amazing for the cold days we have had in nz! The tea is made of 100% organic apple, vanilla bean, cinnamon and pineapple - that's it! Perfect for a vegan like me :)

And that's me with the tea ^^. I have really enjoyed having this along with a book to read on really cold days.

You can find a range of gorgeous looking and sounding teas from West End Tea Co. on their website here.

Lots of love, - Chloe

autumn road

Yesterday, it was a public holiday in New Zealand due to ANZAC day. As something kind of relaxing and different, my family decided to go out and take photos of the lovely autumn colours appearing everywhere! I grabbed the opportunity to do an outfit post - woohoo!

We found the most gorgeous orchard that was all turning a beautiful yellow to orange, and the most amazing little spot down one of the rows. I grabbed my favourite autumn outfit and off we went!

I am wearing my absolute favourite sweat from Country Road (my perfect colour). It is great for those colder days, and so soft too. I also have on my relaxed black pants, and a graphic tee, both from Country Road.

As you might know if you follow me on instagram, I recently got a wacom tablet (which I am in love with) and I was worried about it in my bag, getting scratched or dented (or dropped). This one turned out to be only $15 once there was a discount and a $20 voucher! I could not believe it, grey felt, and from Witchery? What more could I want?! See it here.

I am also wearing this cute silver bar bracelet from ASOS, and silver hexagon earrings which you can't see from Witchery (similar here), and my leather chelsea boots from Topshop.

I hope you enjoyed seeing one of my oufits this autumn, and aren't the colours of the trees just beautiful? Also, I would love to know what your autumn essentials are!?

Lots of love, -Chloe

does that date really say... 19 May? Meaning it has been over 20 days since I have last posted? Can someone please tell me where that time has gone!?

I seem to have been very busy in those 20 days, so here's what's been up!

+ My school had its formal (prom) last week, I was excited to dress up! I went with my friend Cal who does amazing film making and photography. I had such a great time, there was a Photo Booth, and a live band. My dress was made from neoprene (like scuba diving outfits) from ASOS, my shoes from the iconic, my earrings and bangle from ASOS. My favourite part was seeing all my friends looking and feeling amazing - I spent most of the night gawping about how beautiful they all looked! Here are a few photos I got with my friends when I was there! (I wasn't sure about sharing these on here but hey, I did!)

+ I went to see Dior & I. This movie is amazing and I need to be a fashion designer. It was such a good movie about Raf Simons and how he creates his first couture collection for Dior in just 6 weeks. A must see for anyone interested in fashion!

+ I have been doing a lot of design work for Visual Art Design at school - I am loving it so much. We are currently taking our artists models and making our own posters for our event. I am SO glad I ended up swapping to a music festival, it is so much better because I can use pictures of the artists! These are some of the posters I have come up with, using photoshop and a tablet.

+ I also took the first round of photos for my photography project at school a few days ago, and they look better than I wished! It was such a relief, as you never know how ideas in your head will turn out in real life. I am not going to release any photos yet as they are for an internal assessment, but I did post one on my instagram if you want to see!

+ There was an earthquake (the first one I have ever felt) with the epicentre in my little town! It was a magnitude 6 and it was pretty scary. Apparently NZ has a really big overdue one so I hope that doesn't trigger it!

I am sorry about the sparse lack of posts here, I am always trying to post regularly as well as keeping up the standard! I hope you are all doing well, isn't this year going fast!?

3 colour palettes to try in your home

$
0
0

Have you ever bought accessories for your home/room then placed them where you imagined them and they just don't fit? My number one tip is to always go with a colour theme when styling a room. Today, I thought I would show you 3 that I am just loving at the moment, and how you can achieve them yourself!

1. Neutrals

A neutral room is hard to achieve, in that you have to break up the browns, or you get brown overload and it's not good. Neutral accessories and furniture often have brown undertones, so try to mix up the earthier colours with pale pink, mint, grey or black. I used pale pinks to separate above, combining textures like linen, grid and patterns to create depth.

included in this photo:
Bare feet and salty hair print from Tales At Sea, Smoke Grey linen from H&M, Pink Linen pillowcases from Farmers, Black grid pillowcase made from a Country Road tea towel, no longer available. Pink eye cushion from Kowtow, Large antipodes bottle, Aesop Body Cleanser (empty), George & Edi Candle in Vanilla & Anise, Aesop Resurrection Hand Cream, Table from Briscoes.

2. Pink, copper and black

This is just the colour theme of the moment. Pairing a gorgeous copper clock with pale pink is just dreamy. Black can be used to separate the two pale colours and also link them together! Try also using a very white canvas to start with, such as a white duvet cover. Copper is a tricky one, so I recommend linking it together with at least two pieces in the room.

included in this photo:
Shine Bright and Good vibes only prints from Tales At Sea, Pink stripe/grid pillowcases from Country Road, Copper Karlsson Clock available here, 2015 copper diary by Marjolein Delhaas, Pink milk bottle from unknown, Table from Briscoes.

3. Monotone

I love monotone so much. The key to monotone is creating contrast. You need the stark white, not the creamy whites, and the jet black. Greys are your friend too, use them to add a more 'homely' feel from the contrast. The bonus of this colour theme is that any metallic will go with it! For added interest, combine metal accessories like silver, brass, gold, copper or even rose gold.

included in this photo:
Shine bright like a diamond and Me + you prints from Tales At Sea, Black lamp from , Mug from Citta Design, Facial Exfoliant from Grown Alchemist, Grey triangle duvet cover from Urban Outfitters, Grey blanket from Ikea, White plus pillowcase from Henry & Co., Grid cushion made from Country Road tea towel, black moleskin notebook from the Book Depository, Table from Briscoes.

NOW... did you notice the gorgeous prints used throughout the photos? Sarah from Tales At Sea has kindly given me seven of her prints to give away to you lovely readers! The prints you could win include:

- Love + Life
- Shine bright like a diamond
- Bare feet + salty hair
- Me + you
- Friday
- Inhale + Exhale
- Eye see you in watercolours

The competition is being held over on instagram, all you need to do is follow both me (@alittlebirdyblog) and Tales At Sea (@talesatsea), then comment under the photo which print is your favourite from Tales At Sea here and tag three friends.

rules:
- you may only comment on the photo once.
- open worldwide
- finishes 30 May 2015 at 5pm NZ time

The winner will be chosen with a random number generator from the comments!

I hope you found inspiration from this post, and good luck on winning the competition, the prints are all gorgeous!

hello lovelies,

I thought I would do a very quick update today, because even though I have technically been working on my blog all week, I haven't posted.

Above is one of the photos from my first photography internal assessment! This one she is holding some dried proteas (my favourite things ever). I made the dress because I couldn't find one I liked (my art teacher didn't believe me when I was looking at dresses during class). I got excellence in my first internal (hooray)! This image wasn't actually one of the ones I submitted, because I am still trying to work out my theme. I think I am going to base it around Bird Song by Florence + the Machine, which is basically about her killing a bird (nice, chloe!!). It has always been one of my favourite songs and it allows me to tell a story throughout my photos!

On that note - Florence and the Machine's new album is just like the best thing ever. It is on repeat 24/7 at the moment, my favourites being Queen Of Peace, How Big, How Blue, How Beautiful, Hiding (bonus track) and Make Up Your Mind (bonus track). Obsessed.

I have also been looking more into where I am going after school (omg) and for ages I have really wanted and wished that I could go to Whitehouse institute of Design in Melbourne. It actually sounds like a dream. They do courses on Fashion Design, Interior Design and Creative Direction and Styling. Doesn't it just sound like an absolute dream?

A few things that have WOWed me this week have been... somehow (I have no idea) I have over 4 million views on my google+ profile. Like, how does that happen? That is around the population of New Zealand?!? Also, Lorde's mum Sonja followed little old me on instagram! I had a little spaz out because y'all know I do love Lorde.

Now... BIG changes are coming soon to a little birdy, so be prepared! I can't wait!

Talk soon! - Chloe

welcome to chloe! As you may have noticed if you follow me on instagram, I have changed this here blog from a little birdy to my own name, chloe! Why? So many reasons. I have wanted to do it for so long, but I never knew how I would.

Letting go of 'a little birdy' was hard, because I still did like the name. I just didn't feel it was as timeless or appropriate for my content anymore, considering I did come up with it almost 3 years ago now. Using my name is probably as timeless as it can get, considering I will be sticking with it forever.

My new header was done by the amazing Jasmine Dowling (omg!!??) and I love it to pieces. I hope you do too!

Now I want to thank YOU for reading this, for following or for liking an instagram. If it weren't for you I have no idea where I would be now - blogging is the best thing in my life right now and all of the amazing support I get from you is just so lovely and overwhelming. I appreciate you all so much so thank you!!

here's to new beginnings!

01 / grid nails / love aesthetics
I absolutely LOVE this blog, every post is just gorgeous and so original. This post on how to paint your nails in a grid print is just perfect.

I have loved this bin for so long (sounds so sad), and well I need everything from Menu - an amazing scandinavian design company that is just *a lot* over my budget.

The Chronicles Of Her always perfects fashion, and I have admired Carmen for a really long time, and this post really does sum up a perfect wardrobe. Also, her hair is just agh.

04 / too french to be polit / designbby
I absolutely adore this poster, for its simplicity. It is simply so cool.

05 / bucket in pebbled black / building block
I think bucket bags are just so so awesome, this one made my jaw drop - a tassel and a wooden bead?? This shop is also stellar.

06 / playtype G poster / the poster club
Playtype posters are minimalist and gorgeous. This photo always stabs me right in my minimalist heart. Just love.

07 / the office clutch / love aesthetics
I seem to have a weird obsession with office supplies, and this fits the bill perfectly. Functional, aesthetically pleasing and it's a DIY.

Maybe this will become a series? Not sure. I thought I would just show you a few of the images I have been admiring recently.

gold + navy

Well... it seems I like country road a bit too much... oops. I only realised after taking these photos that 90% of my outfit is from there. At least it is an honest representation of what I just love to wear at the moment!

Please excuse my weird chicken-looking-hand in the last photo too. It was so SO cold when the photos were being taken that I felt like they were going to fall off, hence most of the photos showing the gorgeous clutch being ruined because of my freezing red hands.

gold + navy
Navy check poncho/cardigan - Country Road
Grey turtle neck - Country Road
Black skinny jeans - Glassons
Olena black leather pouch - Country Road
Felt sneakers - Country Road
Gold bar necklace - Random Patch Accessories

This is my warmest and comfiest outfit for winter, I just love this drapey poncho with the grey turtleneck knit. I have been asked if I am wearing a blanket or rug a few times - which it may as well be anyway! I also love the coordination in this outfit - the gold bar necklace matches the gold zip of the pouch and the gold detailing on the sneakers, it's a perfectionists' dream!

Also do check out Random Patch- I was pleasantly surprised with their gorgeous range of jewellery at such good prices! I can't stop wearing my gold bar necklace, it goes with everything, and it's so beautiful and dainty.

I hope all you fellow southern hemisphere peeps are keeping warm, and you northern ones are enjoying the sun!

Hello! Wow it seems a while since I have done a proper post - I have missed you guys.

I have been unbelievably busy lately so I thought I would do a little life update. Here we go!

+ As you would have known, I recently entered a competition held by Westfield NZ, where they are finding a young fashion stylist. I got a call last week to say I made it into the top 4! Hooray! Basically what happens now is that I am being flown up to Auckland next week to take part in the final challenge, where I (and 3 others) have to style 3 female and 1 male models from clothes in the mall, then they do a runway, I present them and it all gets filmed! The films will then be put online and the public can vote for their favourite. The winner gets a $5000 Westfield gift voucher, and the most exciting part for me is the help/mentoring from some of NZ's top fashion stylists! WOW that would just be amazing.

I have also been told that to promote the voting, all finalists will be traveling to Westfield malls around NZ for more presentations, meaning in the next 3 weeks I will be going to Auckland, Christchurch and Wellington! I have so much to say, but lets round it up to OMG!

Hopefully, and I mean *hopefully* I will be vlogging it all, for you to see what I get up to! I will try my hardest.

Now that the most exciting news is over....

+ Last week I got the chance to shoot kind of an editorial for a local hair salon, makeup artist and florist. It was all super exciting because I can imagine myself doing that kind of thing in the future! They wanted a winter theme, and it was generally just an excuse for them to have fun and do something that they wouldn't everyday. Below are a few of the final profile shots showing the models and looks!

I also enjoyed stepping out of my comfort zone a little - note how dark the photos are to my usual!

+ It was also my birthday last week, I turned 17! I actually can't believe that's how old I am, 17 has always seemed like such a mature sounding age to me. For my birthday my family and I went to Queenstown and did a bit of shopping and café hopping. I received some lovely things from my family and friends which I am so grateful for.

+ School has been going okay... I am ahead in Design and Photography which is good, but behind in most other subjects, oops! It just goes to show that I am so much more motivated to do something if I actually enjoy it.

+ Honestly I have generally just been tired and unmotivated of recent. Anyone relate!? SO much is going on yet is all just seems a chore, I need to get a grip haha!

I hope you are all doing well, thanks for reading my ramblings!

Hello!

Here I have my very first vlog (video blog) for you all! I wasn't sure whether to actually publish it but hey, I did! I hope you enjoy watching it, it is a bit long but I wanted to make sure I included everything on the amazing trip!

This was for the Westfield Young Stylist competition - As you know I got into the finals and they flew me to Auckland for 4 days last week which was just such an experience in itself! I spent a whole day last week collecting clothes, fitting models and presenting on the catwalk. It was just so so amazing - I loved every second of it and I really can imagine myself doing it as a career. This vlog kind of captures the 'behind the scenes' and everything I did on the other days, so if you want to actually watch the catwalk video and VOTE for me, you can go here: http://bit.ly/1EwiUR5

The winner will receive 12 months experience in the fashion industry of NZ and $5000 - and it's all up to YOU! The winner is now determined by the most public votes, which is super scary. I would seriously appreciate it so SO much if every single one of you could vote, that's all I will ever ask of you! It literally takes two seconds, just go to the link and click VOTE.

If you want to take it a step further because you are an awesome bean, then you can vote every single day (every 24 hours), on each and every device you and your family own, and every different wifi/phone data connection for the next two weeks, until 11:59pm on 31st August. Just to make that a bit clearer - If I had a phone and a laptop, on my phone I could vote through my home wifi once, then again on my 3G/4G phone network, and the same again on my laptop - so that's 4 votes total, every day. AND I will love you for it.

Hello!

So in my Auckland vlog I said I would be doing a post on what I got in Auckland! I have also combined that with a few more bits I got in Christchurch and Wellington last week too.

Above are all the gorgeous bits and pieces I found - left to right top to bottom:

+ Gorman tassel - this cute tassel was on sale in gorman - I love it so much! It has a gold leather tassel, with 2 geometric wooden beads and one mint bead. It is currently on my Mum's pale pink hand bag and it looks so gorgeous!

+ Grown Alchemist Vanilla + Orange Peel Hand Cream - I bought this from Suprette, and it is so lovely! Suprette store is just a dream, with amazing clothes along with homewares too. It was so nice to see the Grown Alchemist range because it is really hard to find normally!

+ Kikki.K Notebook and pen - I love the minimalist range at Kikki.K, and since I haven't been in a few years, yes years, I was kind of in heaven.

+ Country Road Marble Note Block - I received this as a gift while I was in Auckland and I went pretty nuts over all the CR homewares to be honest. Hence buying the pencil case too.

+ Country Road Marble Pencil Case - Well this just kind of explains itself.

+ Kikki.K Scissors - I have been wanting these for a while now, which most people would be like ???? But if you like white stuff and you like stationary and you like Kikki.K then... they are gorgeous!

+ MAC Eye Shadow in 'honey lust' - I went into MAC while I was in Christchurch Westfield, and got my makeup done, where you get the same value in products. I chose some individual fake lashes which I had put on in store with the makeup, and this gorgeous eye shadow which is such a beautiful colour.

+ Essie Nail Polish in 'take it outside' - I received this in a goodie bag and I am head over heels in love with the colour! Recommend 100%!

+ Country Road White Cube - now again to the majority of people this is the weirdest thing to buy, but for my sake its gosh darn pretty. It's such a unique object to use in my room, at the moment I have my Aesop and Grown hand creams stacked in it and it looks so beautiful.

+ MAC Eyebrow crayon in 'fling' - I also got this - because I am a bit of a novice when it comes to brows. I always want to do them, but not... significantly? So when she put it on me in MAC I just loved it because it was subtle but filled them in good!

And probably my most favourite of all...

+ Seed Bucket Bag - oh my............. just look at it! When I saw it I was like to my Mum - I have just met the love of my life. I have been desperately seeking out a bucket bag for so long... but they are all either way too expensive (see here) or just not right. This is not only the prettiest pale pink, but it has gold detailing, and an attached zipped pouch that fits my phone perfectly. I can't get over it...

I hope you have enjoyed watching the vlogs of my trips too. I put up the Christchurch/Wellington one a few days ago... watch and subscribe here!

Life is super busy at the moment, I have my last Westfield trip this week, which is back up in Auckland! I will be vlogging the whole thing of course. See you then!

hello everyone!

I am so terribly sorry about the super long break - I’m not going to go on about it but yeah, I am sorry!

As a wee thank you gift for sticking around (if any of you did) I have designed a 2 month calendar - super minimalist so it fits in with any style! I hope you like it, I just needed some form of organisation and I have loved crossing day off from mine so far.

So, recently I am going to give you a super quick catch up -

I finished the whole Westfield styling competition and it was just so fun, but I have to say I am glad it’s over just because of the time and travelling I had to do (travelling really sucks if you have anxiety). I did not win, but my lovely new friend Abbey did. I feel so proud! I have become really good friends with all three of the other ‘competitors’ so I have come out with so much from the experience. If you would like me to do a blog post about it (I have lots of pictures) please say so!

Last week I also moved house, which is super stressful too. And to top it off, I currently have mock/school exams, which are the prep for my real exams and count if I can’t make it to them.

Hooray! I expect some of you have exams too - if so good luck!!

khaki for spring

Hello!

My heart has been desperately set on owning something khaki at the moment. I have found it interesting that the khaki trend has been refreshed for spring this year (southern hemisphere) even though I remember it was also used for autumn. It's such a beautiful colour that doesn't make me initially think of spring which is why I think it's so... perfect for spring!

Khaki goes amazing with cream, not pure white so pairing this amazing khaki country road shirt with a pair or cream trousers, gold or silver accessories and black shoes is the perfect outfit.

left to right, top to bottom:

+Khaki Tassel/ Building Block
+Cup and Jug / Kowtow
+Silver Knot Cuff / Seed Heritage

+Wyett Small White Cube / Country Road
+Jasmine Dress / Moochi

I am heading off to Auckland tomorrow for a week so I may have internet! (not sure yet!)

Hope you are all well!

a sunday flat lay - the last of the school holidays. loving a little bit of black, pink and marble. I made a few tweaks to the blog design today, just to satisfy my need for change! I also thought since it may be a little easier for myself and so that I don't leave such long gaps in between posts, I would do mini posts with 'link love’ included. I am thinking that link love is just going to be a few things around the web I have being loving for you to check out. Oh and along with an image and some ramblings… hope you enjoy x

This outfit is definitely on repeat. I am currently at that stage where it is getting hot, but I'm not ready for shorts because my legs still think it's winter. This outfit looks like I have put in a tiny bit of effort but it's still super casual and comfortable. The Thing Thing top has a really cute print in a light fabric, with a high neck and split lower back. It's just so perfect for the warmer days, and it's currently on sale too (I got mine a while ago!). AND these are my go-to pants. I literally wear them too much, they are just so comfortable. I finish this outfit when I am out and about with my wonderful Seed bucket bag and Adidas Superstars (literally the comfiest things ever I recommend them 110%).

I handed in my Design and Photography assessments at school yesterday, YAY. That was a whole year of work, which means it is the biggest relief to have it done. I get my marks back in January though (!!??) ... yep I know. I have some exciting things coming up for you all so do stick around!

5 ways to style wall dots in your home

I have teamed up with an amazing company called Happy Moose to show you how you can style their super cool wall dots around your home. The wall dots are absolutely amazing - pick any photo, sizes from as small as 15x15cm to as large as 80x80cm. They are super duper easy to stick on the wall - take it from me, and they peel off whenever you want and are reusable!

The dots are perfect if you want a new look for your walls, that is not permanent and easy to change and move. I'm going to show you a few places around my home where I have styled them so you can see how amazing they look - seriously guys I love them so much!

B E D R O O M  D E S K  A R E A

This one is obviously my favourite for many reasons - I chose a photo I took on my phone about a year ago of a beautiful plant. I made it black and white on VSCO cam on my phone so that it would match my monochrome bedroom and it turned out so great!

This one is the 80x80cm version (31") which is great for a statement wall - if you only want one wall dot this is the size to get. Despite it's size, I still found it super easy to apply to the wall because they are made from a vinyl fabric material that never creates air bubbles for a flawless application.

My Dad chose this dot - it's one of his own photographs. He is a graphic designer so spends a lot of time in his office which is why I wanted him to have one on his wall! This again is the large 80x80cm dot, placed on the largest wall of the room.

K I T C H E N

In my family's new kitchen, we wanted a colour theme so I chose pale blue, which is definitely growing on me! This photo I took on my phone in Queenstown, which has some beautiful blues in it. I then drew 'happiness is homemade' onto it with my drawing tablet to make it sort of more relevant to the kitchen! I love how it turned out - it was definitely hard to photograph because the colours are so pale. I love how the blue looks with the copper in the kitchen and the gorgeous rubber plant!

H A L L W A Y

These two dots definitely turned out better than I expected, I thought I would prefer the single large dots but I actually love the two smaller dots together! For our hallway I chose a wood theme, the larger 60x60cm dot is of a road in France I took on my phone, and the smaller 45x45cm dot is of a forest. I love them both together, they create an easily styled hallway - which I usually find super hard to style. A cluster of different sized dots is a great way to style any space that is lacking in colour and interest e.g. laundry, hallways.

In this picture:
Happy Moose wall dots 60x60cm and 45x45xcm / Nesting tables from Briscoes / Candle from George & Edi / Glasses from Oscar Wylee / Moisturiser from Aesop

B E D R O O M

The final room is a bedroom - I love this space. My Mum is obsessed with mountains, so she chose another photo I took on my phone of the Remarkables. I did some typography over the top (because my Mum loves that too).

In this picture:
Happy Moose wall dot 80x80cm / Copper Lamp from Kmart / Pink storage pot from For Keeps / Bedside unit from Mocka / Black euro linen pillowcase from Citta / Pink geometric pillowcase from Citta / Plus pillowcase from Henry & Co / Grey duvet cover from Urban Outfitters / Grey blanket from Ikea / Pink blanket from Citta

So that is all the spaces I have styled for you all today, I hope it gave you some inspiration to restyle some of the spaces in your home and check out Happy Moose and their wonderful wall dots! I can't express my love for these enough - they are simple, effective and beautiful. Give them a try!

your home and garden magazine

Those who follow me on instagram may know that about a month and a half ago I went to Auckland (from the sneaky peeks of the retail therapy aftermath). I never really let on why I was there, and it turns out I was lucky enough to be doing a little bit of work experience at Your Home and Garden magazine. Which I am SO stoked about by the way!

One of the amazing stylists Vanessa Nouwens took me on as her styling assistant in the photography studio for a few days and I had an absolute blast. I got to learn a lot about the behind-the-scenes stuff of being a stylist. I really really loved it, and yesterday the magazine came out with all the shoots I worked on in it! I'm so excited to show you all!

The main shoot was a christmas table layout using alternate colours, where I helped style a buffet style table and all the little details with a green and ply wood theme. This one took a whole days work to unpack the products, style, photograph then pack away again.

Vanessa had these gorgeous ply triangles that we used as the trees, and lots of goodies for the buffet table. I loved branching out of my usual colours for this one, because you all know green is not my fave - but I loved it!

Second was a 'ways with' page where it gave ways with washi tape. This one I'm quite excited about because my name is actually on the page. omg guys. It's in the bottom left corner if you can see it!

I stuck the washi tape onto the wall in the shape of a reindeer then styled the presents on the little table. It was amazing seeing how many products are used for everything, Vanessa collects boot-loads of gorgeous things the day before the shoot. I loved seeing how professional flat-lays work too, and I found that the process was quite similar to my own!

Last was a 'ways with' fimo clay. This one I love because it looks like marble - the stylist Vanessa and I both have identical style so she could tell which ones I was obsessed with. I mainly just watched this one come to life and ran around getting different plates, paper and accessories. Vanessa made all of these with fimo - they are just amazing, I adore the marble effect!

I had so much fun seeing what it was like to be a professional stylist, and I want to thank Vanessa for having me on board for a few days! It was so interesting to see the behind the scenes aspects of a shoot for a magazine, and so rewarding when you see it in print. I'm so grateful for the experience!

Thomston - his new song brain-dead is on repeat (listen here)

In these past few super busy weeks, being inspired has kept me going. Exams are not fun people and even though the majority of mine are over, the weight on my shoulders still seems to be there. I thought I would collate some of the things I have found recently that inspired me a lot for you all - I hope you enjoy!
